Hi,

Need some help please with living locations. There might be a possibility of a job transfer to RTP mid/next year. Our children are grown so schools are not an issue.

Looking for housing with larger lots. Basically we love our space and are not fond of the cookie cutter homes. We have flexible working hours so leaving at 6am to drive to work is not a problem. Prefer no more than a 30 minute commute if possible.

Thank you so much.

Older parts of Cary might be a good option... Greenwood Forest, Tanglewood, Walnut Hills, Savon Heights, Hillsdale Forest, Greenwood Acres, and Medfield Estates. Of course, older means 60's and 70's.

East side of Chatham County comes to mind.

But, are you looking for a subdivision/neighborhood with larger lots, or would something more rural also do?
New construction or existing resale property?

Hi Mike,

Most likely existing resale property or rural. Not so keen on subdivision/neighborhood properties.

Thank you!

East Chatham County should have some interesting stuff. We were quite taken by a contemporary on 4.5 acres in a residential cul-de-sac last year.
IIRC, it was about $435,000, and all the potential in the world.
Deer all over the place, and backed to wetlands, so wonderfully buffered by nature for a long way behind it.

We were just too comfy in deepest darkest suburbia...

If I didn't have kids/schools to worry about, I'd be looking at south /southeastern Durham County. There is still plenty of rural area - not far beyond Brier Creek. Areas off of Leesville and Olive Branch roads and in-between. Falls Lake is really close by, as are several golf courses.

I second north raleigh, north of 540. There are some great areas in there around NC 50 and Norwood and Shooting Club Rd. Despite that name, I LOVE that road. Lots of horses and nice homes and large lots, many with acreage.

Another good option is the Yates Mill Pond area. That whole area, Graham Newton, Penny Rd, Ten-ten Rd are all great streets to google map and take a look. It's very pretty with nice big lots.

You don't say your price range, though. That will make a difference where you end up.

the first question is "what is your budget"

second "What is a larger lot"

third is "What type/size/condition of house"
