We are looking for suggestions and tips for places to take the family to enjoy Christmas this year, (still fairly new to NC).
Do you have any favorite local places you go to, to get into the Christmas spirit? Any traditions around and near the triangle? Even if it's just a simple pleasure like hot coco at certian coffee houses (which ones?), museums that do it up? Holiday house tours? Resturants that get really festive, visits to see Santa? IF so, please share your favorite things about the Triangle at Christmas
Where we use to live (in CA), there were tons of neighborhoods that created 'Christmas Lane' where you could drive your car, or get out and walk to take in the pretty lights and decorations on the houses and in the yard around various neighborhoods. Haven't found any place like that since moving here, (aside from "Meadow lights). Are we missing places?
I would love any tips on how you celebrate Christmas in the Triangle!
Hill Ridge Farms has a festival of lights that has bonfires and hot cocoa included. The parade this weekend is neat too. There are tree farms in the area but the farmer's market has the best selection.
Don't miss the house on Green Level West Rd by 540 in Cary. And now the house across the street is getting in on the action.
My neighborhood has a night a trolley ride thru the neighborhood, and I think surrounding neighborhoods do too. So most people do at some point get their lights and decorations up....not sure where you're looking that you're not finding stuff.
Last year there was a website listing the "don't miss" Christmas light houses. A friend of mine did the research and drove us around one night.
Local theaters have annual Christmas offerings that are a tradiaiton for many. Of course the local ballet does The Nutcracker (like every other city), but our home-grown traditions include Theatre in the Park's "Christmas Carol" which always has topical references built in, and Raleigh Little Theatre's "Cinderella" (it's set at Christmas) which is also delightful (ugly stepsisters are played by men in drag). Smaller annual offerings have spring up, like "The Santaland Diaries", "A Christmas Story", and other small shows.
The Oakwood Waits is a wonderful a cappella singing group who dress in Victorian costume and do traditional Christmas caroling, plus have a concert. Lots of similar offerings.
THANKS to you all for these tips and suggestions; I am making mental notes and plan to get out more this Christmas
