Hello everyone,
I am considering a move from Charlotte and Raleigh is one of the cities I am considering the move to. Since I work from home commute is not an issue. I am looking for an area that is safe, diverse, walkable close to shops restaurants, movie theaters. Since I work from home I prefer an area where I can take walks during breaks or go for a jog (perhaps a park nearby). Not a place where I will be surrounded by just trees and the closest store is about an hour walk. I’m not into the clubbing or bar seen but I do like listening to music, (some restaurants here have live bands you can enjoy while having a nice dinner). Close to good school is not an option since my kids are grown and out of the house. I am looking to rent at this time. Does anyone have suggestions on good areas that fit these descriptions? Thank you all in advance.

Five Points, Mordecai/Oakwood and near Cameron Village would be good areas to look into.

1. whats the closest intersection to your home in Charlotte, so we have an idea what fits the bill for you (because a strip mall is certainly walkable and has what you need, but its' very different from living downtown)

2. Whats your budget?

3. what size house/apartment do you need?

We live in the Sterling Town Center Apartments next to Triangle Town Center in North Raleigh.

Super Target and a Walmart Supercenter are very walkable. The entire mall and outlying stores are nearby and an easy walk too.

Bus on the corner too.

The definition of "walkable" means different things to different people - some take it to mean "walking distance to stores", other mean "pedestrian/bike friendly infrastructure" etc.....

I'd not go biking on those roads but stores are easily reachable.

We do have a great 24 hour gym with Landice cardio equipment for inclement weather.

Thank you all for your responses.

I live in South Charlotte, which is about a 20 minute drive from downtown Charlotte. The section of Charlotte where I now reside has sidewalks (safe enough) for me to walk and jog in the mornings, is close to plazas (restaurants, stores, supermarkets, etc.). I am looking for something similar (or at least close to it), where the nearest store is not an hour walk. Since I work from home I enjoy going out for walks, get some fresh air, listen to music and enjoy the view. My price range is about 1,000/month for a 1 or 2 bedrooms.

Thanks again
