It can't snow quick enough for me and I will never clear my driveway. Snow is meant to be enjoyed, not shoveled. I'll go with January 17th for the first snow and hope it's at least a foot or more!
Oh my goodness, as part of the contingent that moved here to get away from snow and ice...what on earth is the attraction of a big snow? For kids, maybe, for a few days of sledding and making snowmen; but it makes it so hard to get around, especially if you're working and have to be somewhere at a certain time; increases car accidents especially where there's not a lot of it, and people don't know how to drive in snow; looks good only for a day or two then gets grubby; increases the risks of falling tremendously; makes it hard to walk dogs, especially elderly ones.
Lest you think me a grouch, I will say that I love it here with the high chance of blue skies in winter, without it being below freezing all day. And when it does snow, it seems it's usually just an inch or maybe two, it is pretty for a day then disappears...yes, an ideal snow scenario.
Actually, the best snow is in areas where there is a lot of it. I'm thinking Maine or northern NH. It's usually cold so it's the gorgeous fluffy kind of snow; it renews constantly so looks beautiful; it gives beautiful bright light in the dark days of winter; the cities and towns know how to clear it well, so it's far easier to drive on; people know that it's slippery so they drive carefully and give wide berth to other cars, and braking distance. Of course, then there's mud season when it does melt...

Well, the thing is, everything is going to close down for a week whether we get an inch or a foot, so we may as well get a foot and enjoy it, and then it will be gone in a week.
I do agree with you about the blue skies - up north you only get blue skies in winter when it's frigid. If it's warmer, there's usually cloud cover.
I'd predict two snow events this year....one around the 20th or so of January, one a few days before Valentines day. Hopefully a decent amount, at least 4 + inches.
I can only hope that the snow starts falling during the night; so that they can make all of the school closing decisions before people go to bed and it's not a cluster-rush of trying to get that all figured out in the morning or that they let school out early. Those circumstances just make life stressful.

Where I work you can't work from home and you're expected to go to work on snow or ice days. Why do they give us laptops if we can't really use them?
I see a few days coming up where it is near freezing at night with some chance of rain. But warm during the day.
Aren't you allowed to use them when you work in the evenings, night, and early morning?
It's a 9 to 6 job. Only reason to take laptop home is for a bad weather day to work at home. But we're not allowed.
