Funny you should mention Logan's because I was actually there today. They have tons of rain barrels. I like logans and the rain barrels they sell look top of the line as far as quality goes, but the cheapest one they had was $109. That is just too steep for my wallet. Were you able to get one cheaper there? Again, they look worth it as they seem like a quality product, but I can't commit to that price.

Thanks for the response!

This guys is pretty serious about capturing the rain!

Raleigh Business Owner Invests Big Bucks to Save Water :: WRAL.com

The only thing that is a bit of a shocker is this quote about the 26,000 gallon rain harvesting tank he is having installed:

"The 26,000 gallons in his yard will give him two to three weeks of water," Bobby Ferrel, with Sustainable Business Solutions, said."

26,000 gallons of water will only last him 2-3 weeks????? That must be some yard!

No, we didn't pay anywhere near $109, however we did not buy it this year.

Two other nurseries to try: Norwood Nursery and Homewood, both have advertised recently that they have barrels.

Homewood has great sales in March. 25% off starting March 7, though this sale may be plants only. Homewood has another sale later in March that may cover product other than plants--not sure if rain barrels will be included.

Default Rain Barrels

I'm going in the rain barrel business! I bought a couple a few years back, my buddy who lives near the distributor is going to check for me (on the phone with him as I type - LOL) If I have any luck I will let you all know.

Smile Wooho! Just got my rain barrel from the City of Raleigh!!!!

I noticed on the city website (http://www.raleighnc.gov/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_2_306_202_0_43/http;/pt03/DIG_Web_Content/category/Resident/Garbage_and_Recycling/Cat-2CA-20071015-151721-Rain_Barrels_For_Sale.html - broken link) this morning that they were getting a limited delivery today (Thursday). Showed up first thing 7:30am and got my black pickle barrel rain barrel for $42.70 (They use to be $37, but the price has increased by $5 ~ I think becasue of gas/delivery costs). Not sure how many are left. I picked up two extra barrels for my two neighbors who both desperately want one as well. We are all too cheap to pay $100!

The Barrel Pick-up Location is:
400 West Peace Street
Raleigh, NC 27603

You can call 831-6890 to see if they have any in stock!

Looking forward to getting it hooked up this weekend so I can start collecting liquid gold!

Yay! Mission Accomplished I know I don't want to spend $100 for a barrel either.

do the $42.70 barrels require the "kit" or do they come with the faucet attached?

They have the faucet, overflow valve and screening already installed on the $42.70 barrel. They are essentially ready to go. No kit needed. You just need to get a few supplies at the local hardware store to modify your down spout so it drains into the barrel. I plan to get this white plastic down spout extension. This part should only set you back about $3-$4 at Ace or Home Depot.

I also plan on getting some of the Krylon Fusion paint and painting the barrel an earth tone color.
