Hi everyone I am new here. I am moving back to NC after many years of living in NJ. I am into green - sustainable living and was wondering if there are any housing areas that support this kind of home.
BTW - I don't want to spend more then 250k.

Thanks - can't wait to get to know you all.

I am not affiliated with them, but the builder of the townhome community previously names also builds single family homes with greater energy efficiency in a moderate price range. It is difficult to find homes built this way, and sometimes you need to find a home you can afford and work to retrofit some features, such as low E window, low flush toilets and such that are relatively affordable. There are probably more homes with innovative design in Chapel Hill and Durham. There is a store in Durham that sells items to upfit your home green.

One place to check out is Solterra, which is on the western edge of Durham County between durham and chapel Hill. I think all the homes there are passive solar, very granola community with small lots but a huge community vegetable garden and common grounds. I think I've seen homes in the past there in your price range, and the community website suggests there are three for sale (although the only one on the MLS is over 500K).

Not sure what price range you are in, but Hidden Lake S/D in Youngsville features a lot of green features.

Hidden Lake is a new development (not sure how large its going to be) and right now has 2 completed homes on their website.

Check with the Home Builders Assn. of Durham and Orange Counties. They have had a Green Building Council for a couple of years now. Also check out the NCSU Solar Center - an awesome house and tons of green building links on their site.
