I have read through the threads and here, and it seems that Ravenscroft is highly recommended.

Does anyone know how the salaries for teachers compare to those of the public schools?

I'm a Ravenscroft parent, and the daughter of a public schoolteacher. I don't know their salaries but I do know many staff members have been there many many years. It seems like a really wonderful loving community for students, parents and staff.

Salary at Ravenscroft is well ahead of the curve for NC public school teachers...also, many fringe benefits (money for conferences, travel, etc).

I actually think the salaries of the Ravenscroft staff is not ahead of the curve for public school salaries, the benefits (health and welfare) are not as deep either. It is also a very political landscape, the current headmistress is particularly political.

I know two people who work at Ravenscroft. One at the MS level and one that is in Administration at the upper school and teaches a couple HS level classes. I don't believe that they pay is that much (if any more) than teaching positions at other schools. They do get some nice perks though. One thing to keep in mind is that your children won't go for free unless you are in Administration. Teachers children get 50% off tuition.

I believe some make more, some make less, but by FAR the biggest benefit is the atmosphere--much smaller classes, parents who care about their kids (care enough to spend mucho $$$$$$$$ to send them there!), amazing resources...it would be about a 1000% more enjoyable environment to teach in than public schools, even if the pay might be a little less.

Full disclosure: I am a Ravenscroft grad (a zillion years ago) as well as someone who briefly went into teaching. It was an outstanding school whn I was there, but it's only gotten better since then; parts of the campus look fancier than some colleges I've seen.
