Some of the homes pictured towards the beginning of the thread looked to be only about 5 feet away from the next house on the side, with a window to boot. Strictly from a design point of view, I would prefer sharing a well insulated party wall (i.e. such as in a townhouse) versus being that close to the house next door with a window and a side yard that's not usable for much of anything. This setup is also more compromising to privacy where you're that close from your neighbors who can see right in to your personal activities and also more likely to let in sound from outside the home unless it's a super high quality window.

If someone else likes that design, I suppose that's a valid preference, but personally I would have a concern over that.
