It's not so much the humidity/temperature difference but how long it lasts. I lived in both of those cities. In Florida it's literally hell for 5-6 months. Raleigh? A summer lasts as long as it's supposed to.

I agree with this a million percent. And September/October is always the worst because there is just fundamentally wrong with it being 90 degrees in October after 6 months of sweating. I also think that the low temperatures are different. It doesn't cool off at night in Florida and it does here. At least enough to sit outside.

We currently live In North Fort Myers. We get a little bit of an offshore breeze but nowhere near like living right by the ocean.

Jenniferg72nc thank you so much for the input from a person who has lived in both places, and you are absolutely correct about summers in Florida. It is almost unbearable heat from the beginning of May through all of October and even sometimes into November like this last year. It is the number one reason why we want to move away from Florida, it is just too hot.

PDF and rnc2mbfl you are both absolutely correct the summers here in SWFL just last forever. It wouldn't be too bad if it only lasted 3 to 4 months but it lasts 6 to even 7 months here of just unrelenting heat with no breaks. I look forward to rhe days here that are in the 70s. Summer in Raleigh is sounding even better now. Looking forward to a change of seasons to as we don't get that here in SWFL it's either hot or not hot. Looking forward to possibly seeing some snow again or at least some cooler temperatures. Used to live in WI before we moved to SWFL and the things we miss most are definitely the change in seasons and trees. SWFL doesn't really have much for trees. Thank you for all your input everyone!! We both appreciate it!

Yep. In Fort Lauderdale, summer started mid-April and you had continuous heat with no breaks until perhaps mid-October when it might drop to around 85 instead of hotter and then the humidity might ease JUST a bit.

EVERY day it was hot in summer. No breaks. Even the rain was hot.

My joke was that FLL had 2 seasons - summer and almost summer.

Here, I expect full summer from June 1- Sept 15 and that's not every single day.

And the seasons here are yellow pollen, slightly long summer, autumn and winter lite.

Just out of curiosity how bad does the pollen and allergies get?

Except for central Florida it is not that hot in Florida because you get the ocean breeze. I lived in Tampa and Miami area for 10 years. Loved it. Swimming in my own pool on New Years Eve in Miami is a plus.
Triangle area. Hot, humid summers. Been that way forever. Other than about 4 months a year this area is great for good weather.
Born here, lived in 10 states, returned here when I retired 10 years ago, will die here.
PS Seattle area was our favorite stop.
