Where I used to live one of the local hospitals had some sort of program where teens could go and get a thorough orientation to health related careers with a tour of the hospital, etc. I don't remember if it was a one day thing or a series.

Is there anything like that in the triangle for kids who might be considering careers in health care?

This probably isn't exactly what you are looking for, but Wake Tech has an open house for Medical Laboratory Professionals Week. I'm not sure of the exact date, but I can find out. It will be one afternoon/evening that week. Last year, there were opportunities to explore microbiology, lab chemistry, blood banking, phelbotomy, and more. It's one of their recruiting tools for the Wake Tech Health Sciences campus, but it's not well publicized.

Overall, I cannot say enough good things about the WT Health Sciences programs. If you have a child starting college, and there is even a slight interest in this path, I would apply now, because many of the programs do rolling admissions. I've seen people not get in because they wait too long to apply.

WakeMed has a program associated with AHEC, my daughter has attended many of their Saturday classes - she's now a college freshman. I think we paid $60-85 each time? Here is a link to their Health Careers site which happens to have the ACT prep course listed Health Careers Programs Contact info:Wake AHEC at (919) 350-8547 or (866) 341-1814.
