Hello folks, we are moving to Cary this summer, Preston village area hopefully, with my family. Is Cary the same as any other small city in NC or can it compare to some of the larger cities in the south, i.e. Atlanta, Boston, charlotte?

I think you can make it what you want. There are "big" city things to be done, but it is up to you to get out and do those type of things.

Cary is perfect for families. Now for the big city stuff, you can leave the kids with babysitters and you can "go out downtown" in Raleigh if you want to go to bars, lounges etc. Not like a big city, but there is stuff there.

Yeah... I'd agree that Cary is a family town. Not going to find the amount of options for cultural activities that you would in larger cities but it has everything needed to raise a well rounded family.

It is a town, not a city.....which is a huge plus IMO. It is gorgeous and a wonderful place to live. The best place to live in The Triangle for so many people.

If you are a city dweller/lover, Cary will NOT be your thing.

Boring? Nope. Many things to do in and just outside of town.

BTW - Raleigh, nor Durham are big city either....especially compared to Boston and Atlanta.....which I think is a very good thing.

It's not a city. It's a TOWN. Are you being forced to move here or have you actually done any research? It's a suburb of a small city. It's similar to other suburbs. (Boston is not a city of the south BTW).
