School....

New Jersey is a "state." It is bounded by other "states," a la New York and Pennsylvania, and a couple of not insignificant bodies of water.

Cary is a "town," albeit "city" may be a more apropos description.
Regardless, Cary is not a "state" such as New Jersey. Comparing the two is misguided.

Cary actually is regulated by a "state," that being the "Old North State." North Carolina, as it were.
I do like North Carolina better than I like New Jersey. That is subjective, but it is also a comparison of equals.
We can go to our North Carolina beaches and not swim in raw sewage, if that matters in the equation.

North Carolina joined the United States in 1789 a couple of years after New Jersey did. The function as peers in the US Gubmint.
Cary came along for the ride, not being offered an opportunity to decline at that point. Actually, Cary was named in 1854 within the State of North Carolina long after North Carolina assumed status as a State.
(Setting aside the Unpleasantness of the 1860's, if I may.)

CB, you should one day visit the Town of Cary.
It is full of very nice people, and you don't know what you miss when you misjudge from afar with the narrow vision of rumor and prejudice.

You can say the same about the people who don't want Habitat or others building affordable housing

The concerns about "flooding" are a cop out; building more stormwater infrastructure is what's really needed and not banning affordable housing

Just as an FYI Cary is technically, by census designation, a city. However, the official name of the place is the "Town of Cary" because that sounds nicer. Whatever official action was needed (I think the council voted) was done and 'changed' the name a few years ago after the official census designation.

Well, yeah. Sort of.
But, The Old North State does not make the distinction.

The Town Council approved the (yet again) revised rezoning tonight, so Habitat will get to build. Habitat further reduced their plan to seven homes and shifted their rezoning request to R-8 in their effort to get it approved.

N&O repeatedly refers to them as townhomes in their article, but that's incorrect...they will be single-family detached homes. Also love the TK placeholder in the page title...lol.

Seven homes, that's all. The NIMBY's were against that too. They have no shame, and no compassion either

They must have had a placeholder there. The article I read at that link seems to get it right that thy proposed townhomes initially and they backed it down to single family then fewer homes.

Seems like it should be similar sized lots to what's across the road now.

Yes, they ditched the townhome plans several revisions ago. Not sure how N&O made that mistake, especially since they apparently had much of their article prewritten...lol. They fixed the numerous mentions of "townhomes" throughout the article, but you can still see one in the image caption.

And yes, it will be similar to what's across the street....same R-8 zoning. Frontages on Trimble will be a little smaller though. Habitat's lots will be ~60 feet wide, while the ones across the street are ~70 feet.

Habitat offered a number of conditions to help make the houses fit in better...two-car driveways, front porches, some masonry on the fronts of the houses, at least 20 feet between the houses, etc. They addressed basically every major concern the Planning and Zoning Board had.

The one major concern remaining is the stormwater issue. There is a strip of land at the north end of the site that is owned by the town that was originally set aside for connecting Palmetto through to Trimble. That connection will not be made, and Habitat wants to use that land for part of all of the stormwater management for their project.

They're in discussions about that with the town (would be beneficial for the town to unload that unneeded land too), and hopefully the town can help direct that toward an oversized BMP to actually improve the stormwater situation for the neighborhood.

Taking a look at some of the arguments here, on both sides....just makes me want to vomit. So much judgment. So much superiority and condescending nonsense.

When you think about it - on one hand people need homes and to prevent affordable housing, literally is despicable. On the other hand, the system we have created is one where you live/die by your "net worth"...in other words, and in this case, putting your own survival in front of others, which is totally understandable when faced with such a decision. These homeowners have saved, perhaps for a lifetime, to afford the biggest purchase of their lives and a key part of their retirement plan, and this literally could take years of effort, years of work resulting in $ resulting in equity, right out of their plan.

Long story short, people shouldnt be upset with each other here, they should be upset at the ridiculously backwards system that forces us all to have our eyes, ears, and hearts in the wrong place...
