It is more expensive to live comfortably here than it is to scrape by in NYC. I'd put it that way. I lived in Astoria until about four years ago and was ready to leave for a number of reasons. I like the vibe of Durham, have lived here since October.
Finding like-minded people around here after living in NYC is a bit tough. The city does something to people that is hard to shake off. But this is a cool area with a lot of artsy things going on if you know where to look, as long as you don't mind driving everywhere.
