Someone just told me that House For Sale signs are not allowed in Carolina Arbors. Is that legal here? Is it common?

(When we lived in Phoenix, I remember there being a big battle about this with at least one HOA.)

I don't know the legality of this but I do know that For Sale signs may be placed INSIDE a front window, but not on a post on the front lawn.

Yes, it is legal.

Carolina Arbors is not the only community with those restrictions.

A few neighborhoods have crazy sign restrictions!

In Heritage, you have to have a sign made that matches their signs! When I got one a couple of years ago, it was $95.

In Martinique (condos), they don't allow ANY signs.

In Hilburn Townhomes, you can put a sign in the window but not in the yard.

I'm sure there are more!

These days houses are checked out on Zillow, Trulia, etc. before anyone decides to visit. Suggest you and your realtor have your house staged, a video and a floor plan with dimensions online so anyone interested can get as much info as possible. Most view your house with street view and Google view to see what the area around your house, where it is located on a street and what type of cars/trucks are parked in driveways.

Signs sure do help guide the buyers and agents in the last 100--200 feet, particularly in cookie cutter neighborhoods like Del Webb.

We had that rule for the entire village of Oak Park, Illinois. There were no HOA's; it was a village ordinance and it held up in court. At that time (1970's) it was successfully used to stop blockbusting.

It is explicitly stated in the HOA agreement ALL homeowners sign.

There are still plenty of people who drive around neighborhoods looking for signs. FSBO. Something that didn't quite fit your search parameters. Hell, there ARE actually people who still don't use technology comfortably (which may be more common in 55+ communities).

I'm gonna take a guess and bet that the prohibition against for sale signs goes away as soon as Del Webb/Pulte sells the last house in CA and closes the sales office. (And I don't find fault with that. It's smart business.)

HOA does lawn care, and signs are just one more thing for production mowers to work around.
