Hi all.

I'll be moving from Greensboro to Raleigh next month. Born and raised in Greensboro but actually haven't frequented Raleigh that much. In your opinion what are the best areas of the city for a 25 young professional to move to? I enjoy going out in the evening and also am a very active outdoorsy person, so recreational activities in a given area are a plus.

-Thanks for all suggestions!

Depends on budget...glenwood south is the big nightlife area but there are several condos and townhouses near Cameron village that may suit you. If not north hills is becoming really popular too. For outdoorsy stuff you may even prefer being up near falls lake though.

Good suggestions. Budget will be around $800-1000 for housing. That should get a good one bedroom right?

Not in Glenwood South. Average rent for a 1 br apt. in GS is $1,511; for all of Raleigh is $1,179/month. You'll find something for around $1,000, but it will be tiny studio (500 sf studios in GS are $1,000+) or won't be luxurious, or in a hot area.

Right on GWS will cost more because everything is brand spanking new.

You can live walking distance in Cameron Village in a 2 bedroom for under $1,000. I hopped on CL and saw one for $965. I've lived right off Glenwood and I would say that Cameron Village is the best of both worlds, walk to amenities, nice area, walk to nightlife, but not so close to the nightlife to be hassled by it.

It will not be brand new but it will be fine, have dishwasher, probably hookups for w/d.

If you want new finishes at that price you're going to have to look further out.

Agreed on what other's said. There are some older townhomes and condos near Broughton High School (Cameron Village and just outside it) that may fit that budget. And those are a short uber ride or walkable even to Glenwood south. I've made the walk several times in my younger years. I want to say the condos are Bishop's Park or something like that...there are multiple complexes back in there off St Mary's and Wade Ave.

If you wanted to go a different direction and be closer to nature there are tons of newer condos north of 540 that are close to Falls Lake with greenway and hiking trails right nearby. Those would probably be a little bit cheaper.

There's a number of apartments in the Avant Ferry area that fetch for less, although it's tough to find single roomers.
