I just saw these weird patches growing on our mulch around the yard. It didn't start until this past holiday weekend. What is this? Is it a type of fungus caused by high humidity or something else? Any way to get rid of it or will it just go away on it's own. How about prevention?
It's actually not even that humid in good ol' NC just yet -how about July!

it'll all disappear. I've had some oddly tall clover that were rampant until 2 weeks ago, they're all burned off now.

Its slime mold and not a fungus. Nothing you can do about it except turn it over or rake it out. It will produce dark brown spores that can get a bit messy.

All the rain plus hardwood mulch is what causes it.
It'll go away by itself.

Mulch is decomposing living matter. Mold/Fungus decomposes living matter. No way to prevent nature from doing it's thing, but it will go away. The rainy weather promotes it's growth, and mulch is used to retain water...so it is a little more prevalent in the spring or wetter times of year.
