I have to go through this intersection a couple of times a day and it's not fun. Road delays from building the Cube Smart didn't help. Trying to turn left from 54 onto Barbee is, well, misery at times. Why did the road people put in a green arrow if the blasted thing rarely is in green arrow mode.

I go through this intersection daily as well. I am amazed there aren't more accidents there. Thankfully I never have to turn left at it but going straight can be harrowing as well. If you are going westbound there is limited visibility because the eastbound traffic is coming up a hill. And that little Shell is way too crowded. I've seen cars block eastbound traffic trying to get in there. I know there are plans to widen 54 but that is years away. It's only going to get worse before it gets better.
I heard there was interest from grocery chains Pulbix and Wegman's. I am beyond flabbergasted that this was denied. Heaven forbid we have a choice in this area of Durham other than sad old Harris Teeter or Food Lion!! Hey, how about let's build another bank or storage facility (barf). This is exactly why I take my $$ OUTSIDE DURHAM COUNTY to purchase groceries and most other things I need. Desperately need more choice in Durham: in grocery, in cable providers, in mass transit (i.e. light rail- thanks Duke), in everything.
P.S. Yes, the Shell station at this intersection needs to be forced to improve access or else be shut down.
P.S.S. In case you did not know - Triangle Transit authority scrapped the light rail plan because DUKE would not agree to allowing stops on their properties. Short sighted, ridiculous and stupid.
It was not denied, the developer was given permission to put a grocery store there, but then ~1 year later they went back to the council and said the plans didn't work out and they couldn't find a tenant so they proposed putting in townhomes. The meeting recordings are online for anyone to watch.
Gas House had a rezoning notice a month or two ago. Wants to go to R20, so I'm guessing more townhouses on the corner.
And can the CubeSmart/Barbee Gardens Townhouse place please finish the road bothering. Those cones need to go.
