Good point. I just dropped into my current agent's office. I was there when we opened the policies and this is the only other time in 9 years I visited!
If you use a State Farm agent when you get here let your current agent know who it is and they can send all your paperwork down and it makes it real easy for them to set up your new policies. AS far as an agent to use, it probably doesn't matter too much but if you want an established agent look for their bio on their website and/or how many awards they've won...that means they have a lot of policyholders.
As far as going to an agency, there are MANY people who like that face to face contact which is how State Farm and Allstate survive with captive agents and other companies as well. They like having a "person" to go to.
When you contact insurance agents or companies ask if they require customers to sign this form. In choosing an insurer give preference to one which does not make this onerous demand.
The CTR prompted me to move all policies from State Farm to Amica.
I use Amica for both - have gotten in 2 auto accidents where I wasn't at-fault and Amica handled the claim in a quick and orderly fashion for me. The customer service experience is worth the few extra dollars I pay each month vs. other companies.
I was with State Farm until they started the consent to rate and have been with Amica ever since. My homeowners policy dropped significantly with the switch and my auto policy went up a little.
Except MOST companies end up being cheaper if you bundle. I'm sure there are exceptions depending on personal circumstances.
BTW if you want/need an umbrella policy, you must have your auto and HO with the same company for the umbrella to ride over your auto and HO policy.
I usually bundle if I can for that reason.
I don't think I'll bother with the umbrella until we purchase a home. We'll make sure the liability limits on the renter's policy are good in the meantime.

I did that today but my current agent messed up and didn't tell the rest of the office staff to expect a call. So there was some phone tag confusion. I'll have to wait till tomorrow to see if the NC agent has what they need to give me a quote.
