Correction: 7:30am boarding

Trying to gauge how early we need to be at the airport on what I expect to be a busy morning. Planning on being to long term parking by 6:00 am. Not sure of the wait time for the shuttle or how busy the security lines will be. Do you think my timing will be OK?

I don't know if July 4th is a big weekend for flying, but when I take a cab I usually aim to get dropped off at RDU 1-1.5 hours before the flight is scheduled to leave. You list the boarding time, which is 20 minutes ahead of actual take off? I think you should be fine, but if you are worried maybe get there at 5:45 AM to allow for a bit of a wait for the shuttle.

Domestic ??

I like to be on the other side of security an hour before the flight.
After a trip to the restroom, grabbing a coffee it's time to board.

That means entering the terminal by 6 for you and through security by 6:30.

Allowing parking and shuttle time means another 15 minutes.

Sure you can make it in less if all goes smooth, but I like to build in the extra time .
It has saved my butt more than once when I hit unexpected delays.

I would arrive about 5:45
Be through security if it goes normally by 6:30.

Southwest or International an extra hour.

Just saw your correction that 7:30 is boarding..
I think your timing in your first post is fine

Which airline? Are you checking bags? Will you already be checked in and have your boarding pass?

If you're bypassing the ticket counter and going straight to security, you should be fine, especially if in Terminal A (fewer gates means fewer people going through security, and a smaller terminal to navigate).

Depending on the length of your trip, you may consider Uber instead of parking. It might be a bit more expensive round trip, but you won't have to worry about parking and waiting on the shuttle.

Thanks for the replies.

Southwest, flying domestic. Didn't realize that terminal was that busy to add a bit more time. Glad I checked!

I've never needed to allow an extra hour for Southwest. If anything, I've needed less time for Southwest than the other airlines ... there's only 9 gates in that terminal, and they're rarely all in use at any one given time. The only time I ever had any sort of delay going through security in Terminal A is the one time that I had the misfortune of getting caught behind a girls high school athletic team traveling to some sort of tournament.

I have only flown Southwest once and it was right before Christmas and it took 1 1/2 hrs to get bags checked and thru security.

It may not be typical of them.

Yeah, if I were checking bags, I might allow more time. The OP didn't mention if they were checking bags.

If not checking bags, I think arriving at 6:00 for 7:30 boarding should be sufficient.

Just so we don't confuse the OP, RDU has Terminal 1 & 2 .
Southwest is Terminal 1

One more thing- Check out Fast Park.

Rates are great and they shuttle you very quickly right to your terminal.
Really saves time and very convenient.
