hello,
I just returned from Oberline Court and Cameron Village area. I really liked the area, but wondered how was crime, and the overall area.

The Cameron Village area is generally very safe. You can see the locations of recent crimes on the Raleigh Crime Map by clicking on the legend and selecting the different types of crimes you want to see on the map.

Is the housing market in this area affordable? (I am coming from Virginia Beach). I dont have any kids, but am also wondering how the schools are rated.
This is a side note, what are the yellow stickers on everyone's car? Are they some sort of inspection or car tax?

The stickers are for the yearly inspections, including emissions.

What is affordable to you? This area isn't affordable for me to actually buy a house, but it might be for you. What's your price range?
Like Dire Wolf said, the stickers are for safety and emissions inspections that are done yearly. There is also a yearly personal property tax on your vehicle that you must pay after renewing your registration.

I lived around Cameron Village for 5/6 years before moving to Mordecai (first few years over by the Rose Garden and the last in Cameron Park)...While in Cameron Park, my house was broken into twice....in 9 days! Also had my car 'searched' a few times (including one time a drunk person who couldn't make it home decided to take a break in my passenger seat). BUT...I think the break ins were part of a rash of robberies and soon subsided....I loved the area...its my favorite area of Raleigh and if I could afford to buy there (crazy expensive!) I would...

Housing in the area ranges from Really expensive to somewhat affordable. The "somewhat" affordable is usually condos. Cameron Village Condos and many of the condos in the Bishops Park area (Fletcher Park) can be had in the high 100's. If you are going for a house, you can be assured that nothing will under 300K and, at that price, it will probably need work. The schools/neighborhoods in this area tend to be more stable than on the ever growing fringes of the city. And, many of the magnet programs are inside the beltline. I have to agree with what others have said, this is my favorite part of Raleigh. I have lived in Parkridge Lane in the past and loved it. I now live in a condo in the Glenwood South area. I love it there too!
While the Cameron Village area doesn't have official boundaries, I'd say that it's bounded by Wade Ave. on the North, Hillsborough on the South, St. Mary's on the East and a bit West of Oberlin. The Glenwood/Brooklyn and Glenwood South neighborhoods are seamlessly adjacent to this area on the East side of St. Mary's. St. I'd look in those areas too.

One of my best friends from college days is a Raleigh native, and when she returned to the area from UNCW, back in the late 70s, she bought a condo in Cameron Village, and has been there ever since. She loves the area, but I have heard her complain about the condos' HOA, mostly in regards to maintenance and some planting issues.
Beautiful area of Raleigh.

So, generally speaking CV is in a "safe" area?
Thanks!
