Trains 73, 74, 75, 76 run between Raleigh and Charlotte exclusively (the others on the Carolinian/Piedmont routes are long distance so affected more by delays)

Last month/Last year
Train 73 - 85.2%/65.5%
Train 74 - 76.7%/54.7%
Train 75 - 73.3%/54.0%
Train 76 - 51.9%/51.5%
I suspect much of that improvement is due to the Piedmont Improvement Program making good progress. Now if they would just get the Greensboro-Raleigh segment done!

I agree on Durham-DC delays, have taken that once, never again until that route improves, which is a long way off.

Actually there have been improvements. With ARRA money NCDOT paid CSX to install three crossovers on double track between Rocky Mount and the Virginia line; these crossovers increase fluidity of train movements. CSX and VDOT restored some of the second track south of Petersburg. And CSX and VDOT are installing a third track in northern Virginia. By themselves these won't solve all the problems, but they're a start.

Ultimately the SEHSR route is going to be the best way to improve DC-Raleigh service. The route that the train takes right now is way too indirect to be efficient when operating at its best. Though who knows if that will ever be a reality.

Speaking of CSX I read where EHH might not be there as long as everyone
thought he would? Hopefully there will be something left once he's gone. He
looks like death warmed over...

SEHSR would address Richmond-Raleigh, but DC-Richmond is a separate project. Anyway, SEHSR as originally conceived (110 mph Petersburg-Raleigh) is basically DOA although no one has held the funeral yet. You're talking a billion-plus dollars to realign the right of way Petersburg-Raleigh to allow 110 mph. For just a few hundred million, you could run up to 79 mph Petersburg-Raleigh and still do much better than the current routing via Selma and Rocky Mount. The consequence of 79 mph max on the existing right of way would be 2 hrs 40 minutes Richmond-Raleigh instead of 2 hrs flat, but the question is whether the 40 minutes saved are worth two-thirds of a billion dollars.

Anything would be better than the awful routing now going through Selma and Rocky Mount

Sorry, you are actually misinformed. After your post, a neighbor of ours reached out to the Regional Planning office and they say it's just a leftover in the database and will be removed soon. I can DM the full quote if you'd like but this project is NOT back.

I don't mind being told I'm misinformed when the error lies elsewhere. It does make one wonder how many other errors are in the database as published.
