We are new in RTP area and just heard about the sunflowers along Neuse River Trail. Some sources say that you have to go before mid-July to see them, but others say that the season varies year to year. We would like to go see them some time next weekend (July 22,23). Will that be too late this year?

Thanks.

I heard that it is too late and that the hot weather has withered the sunflowers. I was at the trail on Saturday. We parked at the lot off Auburn-Knightdale Rd and met a few folks who said there were like 3 living sunflowers left. It was super hot, so I did not even hike the 3-miles to sunflower field so I don't have first-hand knowledge.

Yup, I saw a photo on Instagram and there were almost no sunflowers.

But you might be in luck, I read that they may be planting another batch in the fall.

It is not at Neuse this year. It's at Dix Park this time for 2018.

If you walk/ride roughly 1/2 mile past where they were last year, you'll hit a large patch along the Neuse Trail.

Good to know! Thanks! Will likely check both locations out, nice to have options.
