Hello -

Need some thoughts from locals or people who have relocated to the area. We are three families moving from Miami to NC. Here is what is important to us:

Needs:
Hospital/Urgent Cares close by
Large Law Firms or major corporations
Looking for Classical schools
Diverse neighborhoods with low crime in a city with home town feel
Close to lakes/rivers

Thanks for your help!!

what's a classical school?

how do you define diverse?

What's your budget(s) to purchase or rent, and what's your housing need (ie, 3 beds, 2 baths, etc)

Classical schools teach children according to the stage of development.

We intend on renting ($2000 + or -) for two years and then purchasing. Would like to purchase around $350k. (Mostly 4/2 for all families)

Diversity to me means, different nationalities, religions, color, young, old - mostly just having people from different walks of life... get me?

when I read your explanation, it sounded like a Montessori school, or similar (fellow residents would add The Raleigh School). But my Google yielded this:

https://www.google.com/search?site=&....0.yVLrnH1RV6w

which are completely different results.

The median home price in Wake County - where Raleigh, Cary, Wake Forest, Apex, etc are - and within one of these towns is $432K. But those houses are also about 3,000 sqft.

Staying in the $350K range will cut your options by 2/3, but you can get 2400 - 2800 sqft

Chapel hill/Durham might fit your needs.

There are couple of private schools that teach classical curriculum:

a) Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill 4721 Erwin Rd., Durham, NC 27705
b) Emerson Waldorf School 6211 New Jericho Rd., Chapel Hill, NC 27516

would agree but the compared to Miami this area is Wonder bread supreme and doubt anyone can dance to Soca. Stay in FL for diversity this area is segregated into what you can afford but that might be what you want.

North Raleigh/Falls River outside 540 has homes from $150k and up and is close to a hospital and near the Durant park with a large lake with homes on a greenway. Much less populated than near the mess than is RTP.

Meh....I lived in Miami for 3 years and its essentially a South American city. It is diverse in the sheer number of different latino communities thriving there but its not your typical large metropolitan US city.

Things you will appreciate comparatively: lack of traffic, cleanliness of city, kindness/consideration of the people, less hectic pace of life, winter (if you like it), the better family atmosphere

Things you will miss: the beach (obviously), pollo tropical, the weather.
