Lucette Grace doesn't do traditional stuff, at least from what I've seen - the traditional puff pastry/crème pâtissière type. They seem to like doing trendy updates. It's a shame there's Charlotte-based Amelie's hasn't opened up a Triangle location yet. Fresh Market's pastry case also tends to have them, but they don't make them in-house anymore (they used to and a couple years ago corporate decided to stop doing that). I *think* I've seen them at Grand Asia's pastry section before as well. It really is a shame that Gourmandises de France is long closed, because they did them regularly. I didn't know about French Corner...I might have to check them out.

They're closed while they transition from the Meats & Sweets concept to a sit-down restaurant.

We love Sugar Buzz Bakery in Cary. They don't have many pastries, but their cakes, cupcakes and other desserts are amazing and beautiful. We often stop in on Fridays for Gluten-Free Friday. We ordered a gf carrot cake for a family event. It was absolutely amazing and the price was very reasonable. Website: Desserts, Cakes - Sugar Buzz Bakery - Cary, Nc

Went to the Panthers game last night and stopped at Amelie's on the way back and got my salted caramel brownie and macaroon fix

So Friday I made it out to French Corner Bakery and was pleasantly surprised and will declare Monsieur Messaoui's pastries my real deal replacement for Gourmandises de France. I left with a croissant, two mille-feuilles, and a half-dozen macarons. All were absolutely delicious. If I had any complaints it'd be that the macarons are small - about the size of a "mini macaron" at most places and the flavors were a little pedestrian - chocolate, vanilla, caramel pistachio, lemon, and raspberry. The mille-feuilles could have also used a little more crème pâtissière in the filling layers, but quality and taste wise they were spot on. I don't know if the clerk minding the register was new, but it took about three tries to get the cost of my order correct and she gave me a blank look when I asked for mille-feuilles (even though they were labeled as such in the case). The croissant was buttery, flaky, and delicious. Thanks everyone who mentioned it, as I'd have never known it was there otherwise! Now to get some of Raleigh French Bakery's wares for a taste test...I just wish Monsieur Messaoui had been there so I could brush up my French!

I'd sell my soul for a good German crumb cake like this one. Anyone in the area make one?
