I have some friends relocating this summer and looking for a non-denominational / independent church in the Raleigh area.

Here are some criteria.

* Under 300 in attendance
* Programs for kids and youth
* Casual / friendly atmosphere
* Outwardly focused -- lots of serving the community

I have heard of a few on my own but would love to get more recommendations.

Ekklesia Church - Ekklesia Raleigh |
New Life Triangle - New Life Triangle
North Raleigh Community Church - NRCC Downtown
Focus Church - Focus Church | Serving Apex, Cary, and Raleigh, NC

North Raleigh Community Church is a really new age church and is way different than the other churches on your list so I'd cross that off your list.

Church On Morgan in downtown Raleigh is one I would add to the list.

If you don't mind a larger church, I go to Vintage Church in downtown Raleigh and love it (but has a small church feel). I think there's some work to do in terms of how they serve the community but they have a kids/youth ministry and it's definitely a casual/friendly atmosphere so I'm happy to answer any questions if they might be interested!

Hope Community Church, would fit your requirements other than size, but if you went to the Morrisville campus, you'd be under 300 in a service. Small campus but has access to the advantages of a bigger organization.

Hope is probably pushing it in terms of size (along with Summit). Great churches but I'm guessing if they have a size requirement, they probably want to go somewhere where you aren't watching a video sermon.

Reality is, it's difficult to sustain a self-supporting church that has a full-time, credentialed pastor and offers youth programs, music, etc with an average Sunday attendance of less than 200. Not impossible, but difficult... just not enough income, unless there are big givers in the congregation. For this reason many churches aspire to grow larger than that. This is average Sunday attendance, not membership which is typically 3 or 4 times larger than ASA depending on how you count members.
