Can I link it here since it's the same question? RedZin? Edit me if it's inappropriate: //www.city-data.com/forum/ralei...apel-hill.html

Anyway, as a summary they already live in Chapel Hill in an apartment they like. They can move and take over her parents' townhouse in Cary. They're interested in their kids learning Mandarin and Spanish (dual language programs for both in Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools). Chapel Hill is a better location for her husband's commute.

So, it's "townhouse" not "house" and they already live in Chapel Hill and like it.
That's interesting. If they already like CH, and it's more convenient for commuting, then why move?

Elise, you sound a little stuck when you're talking about the apartment in Chapel Hill. Could you not move if you found somewhere more desirable in Chapel Hill? Any chance of your husband moving up in his career and getting a raise? What would the savings be if you took over your parents' townhome vs stayed where you are?

I agree and all this talk to the OP about what it's like to live in CH is irrelevant since she already lives there and knows what it's like. However if she does decide to move to Cary she should have no qualms about moving to Carpenter Village.

Update - thank you all SO much! This has been a very tough decision to make and I am so grateful for your kind input.

After chatting with a few more people, we had decided on Cary - it seems cleaner, greener and with less crime. BUT, now things are tense with my mom. We would not be living with her, but she is very attached to her house emotionally and isn't sure about things like additional pets, holes in the wall and so forth. We fear we would struggle under her constraints and damage the relationship.

So now I am looking at apartment complexes to rent in Cary, if you have any input on those!

Best possible public schools (starting in K and going thru 12), decent 3br apartment, not horrible commute to SW Durham for my husband would be ideal. I work from home, so no issues there.

I really appreciate your help!

For schools? Cornerstone Apartments. Straight shot pretty much up 55 to get to RTP.
