I don't think they'll get a new build in Hillsborough for 300k unless they want a tiny house.

Mebane does have some that have 3b/2b, per realtor.com, but not many... just a couple of Dan Ryan ones.

I don't think 300k is going to be much of a budget for a home if the OP is wanting options for new construction.

I do think that 300k is decent for a resale in those areas, though.

If this ranking place is going to split Raleigh into neighborhoods, then it needs to do the same with Durham. Durham at #404 (fill not found?) makes this listing useless.

I agree with you. There are some very hot areas of Durham that are popular.

Garner is the best kept secret in the Triangle. That rating does not do Garner justice. You get ALL the amenities of Raleigh (10-15 minutes away) for literally half the real-estate costs. It simply can not be beat.

if anyone is interested in what "grades", each town got for each category, go to Moderator cut: Link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowedand then type in the town.

Garner for example -Moderator cut: Link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed

Agreed, but the OP prefers proximity to Chapel Hill.

What keeps the prices in Garner from being higher is the fact that the commute from there to RTP is brutal. If you don't have to go to RTP daily then I agree that Garner is very nice. It wouldn't work for the OP, however, based on their request to be within 30 minutes of their friends in Chapel Hill.

As others have mentioned, Hillsborough would be a good option. Another good option is south of Chapel Hill in Chatham county. Property taxes are significantly lower and you can still easily get to the conveniences of Chapel Hill. Plus, there is lots of new development coming in the areas off 15-501 between Chapel Hill and Pittsboro.

Durham is highly UNDER-rated in this ranking. It is a diverse city with a rich cultural life and a strong activist sensibility. Yes, there is crime. Yes, even in "good" neighborhoods there is crime, but most of it is car break-ins and such. Yes, you do need a security system. But as a "solo senior", I'd rather live in Durham than in any of the surrounding towns. It's the best balance of property taxes / convenience / culture / housing stock.

It's not under rated because they're going strictly on statistics (fact). The average person on this forum knows much more about these cities/towns than the computers that put this list together.

What would be the zip codes of North Raleigh, Northwest Raleigh, and Falls of Neuse Raleigh? We haven't spent much time in Raleigh, but I remember liking it the last time we were there.

Can anyone provide some of the "good" parts of Durham to look at? We've stayed in Durham twice off of Mount Moriah. It was a very convenient location.
