Just in case you don't manage before you go, it's easy to get a flu shot in Europe. I've done it many times. In France and Italy the pharmacies all offer them.
It takes time for the shot to be effective though. Probably by the time their vacation would be over!
my work is doing them right after the holiday for round one and round two 2 weeks later. So they must be getting close to release time for everyone in general.
People who travel often might ask their doctor whether the flu shot they're getting are trivalent or quadrivalent vaccines. The quadrivalent is more expensive but it includes a fourth strain.
I also know an infectious disease provider who gets two flu shots a year - one in sept and another in February. She claims they lose effectiveness over time. Not sure how true that is but worth knowing if you get one now that you may be at an increased risk in 6 months.

The CDC says not to wait until a certain vaccine is available. Sometimes, you get the flu before you get your shot by doing that. I got the quadrivalent vaccine one year and got the flu anyway. So no guarantees.
