I will never understand these types of discussions. As a transplant from NYC, I never had any choice but to avoid areas such as this , or pass through at my own risk. As a law - abiding resident of NC ( I assume) , you have a right to self defence that I did not have when I lived in the Peoples Republic of New York. If you choose not to exercise that right , that is your choice. The alternative is to avoid those areas, or live in fear.

...and I'll never understand comments like these that blow everything out of proportion. The ATT is not something you should outright fear.
I walked on the ATT today from the American Tobacco Campus south to Otis st and thought of this thread. I counted and saw 13 or 14 people in the hour that I walked.

Yea, it's always surprising how few people use the trails here, seeing as there isn't much else.
Well it was the middle of the day so it was mostly people out on their lunch hour and a few cyclists. I thought it was a sizeable number actually. I don't want to feel like I'm at the mall. A person or two every few minutes is plenty. I guess it would average out to a person every 5 minutes or so, which is fine by me.

I'd argue the exact opposite. Go out on any greenway around here on the weekend and they're quite active with people. Also if you can't find something to do in the Triangle you aren't trying very hard.

Are you CapitalBlvd's cousin or something?
Such an honor to be compared to such a legendary poster.
They aren't really that busy, not since the big flood that comes out for a bit in the spring. There's not that much to do in the Triangle if you don't have kids. OB, MB, Charleston, Asheville, Atlanta, DC are fun, but they are all some travel.
My wife's friend was out for a jog on the ATT down at the Apex end near the 64 bridge and saw a young couple engaging in the highest levels of intimacy right there under the bridge. That's about all the excitement we see down here at this end. Well, that and horse poop.
