So funny. Every Friday on twitter there's a hashtag game called #CougarorNot - someone posts pictures that have been sent in as cougars. Often they are housecats. This one still seems bigger than a housecat to me but could totally be a housecat :-D
Poppy I see your point on the size and perspective of the photo. The comparisons of the three were really helpful. Thank you so much! I'll go back to worrying about the coyote roaming around here.
Yeah, coyotes are a much more legitimate concern. We also have foxes in our neighborhood, but I don't think they'd mess with too many other pets — maybe a pet bunny or chickens. Don't forget about the copperheads! Did you hear the recent news story of a woman who got bit by a baby copperhead while inside a LongHorn steakhouse in Spotsylvania County VA!?! ‘I got bit! BTW, my husband is a runner and runs home daily from his office. He just told me he's seen 4(!) copperheads since last Wednesday. Watch out, out there!
A year or two ago Piedmont Wildlife captured a photo of a bobcat on one of their wildlife cameras. They didn't mention a more specific location than "in the area" maybe more for the bobcat's safety than humans. I've seen a coyote in S. Durham so I know they are here.
I really hope it's a larger outdoor cat than a mountain lion.
