Sanitation rating: 99 as of 7/25/17.

D&S Cafeteria Weekly Menus South Hills Mall Cary

Fast and good. Most times you can be seated and eating within three minutes of walking in the door.

The address is Raleigh but D & S is almost in Cary, not far from the Crossroads Shopping Center.

A couple of thoughts:

"Americana" type food:

Winston's Grille in N Raleigh
Winston's Grille – A Raleigh tradition since 1986

Basic but good Chinese/American food: Imperial Garden

I also find that my in-laws who generally eschew anything exotic also like hibachi. It's special, because it's an event, but basically you are just eating chicken and fried rice. I haven't tried any in Raleigh, but there are endless options

I know you didn't state Durham, but I love-love Guglhupf (especially for weekend brunch) and Foster's Market.

Lord save me, but I like the Slams at Denny's.

Some of these suggestions don't strike me as things an old guy would find "affordable." Like Guglhupf or 42nd Street. I'm thinking more like Pam's Farm House on Western Boulevard, the State Farmer's Market Restaurant off Lake Wheeler, or Oak City Cafe for lunch.

Nearby to this is Gypsy's Shiny Diner and a Hibachi Place, off Buck Jones Rd (now, with take-off ramp, Dukes of Hazzard style!).

Also maybe Hayes Barton Cafe. I haven't been, but I've heard it's good and the menu seems like it fits the bill
