You can see it in the difference between the Taco Bell on Walnut Street in Cary and the one on Kildaire Farm Road. (not saying the one on KDF is nasty. I eat there weekly. )
I haven't been to that one lately, but when I was a frequent visitor they always seem to have pretty high sanitation scores at the KDF location.
Regarding the BK situation, I agree that BK is killing itself from the inside out. It's hard to know from this side if it's a corporate issue (bad from the top down), or if it's the franchisees, but Wikipedia has some interesting details that may tell the story. I never thought they had a bad product line-up, but the quality of the products/ingredients has certainly taken a nosedive over the last 20 years. The fry situation is just awful, I agree -- they're the worst!
I don't have the kind of time it would take to run down the numbers, but I wonder if BKs are like this nationwide, or if there are places where they really do well against the competition.
I noticed it when GF and I went to dinner on Monday. Also noticed the S-Mart had closed down too. I suspect that over the next few years, that plaza will evolve as well. If I had to guess, I'd think it will become more like Chatham Square. More eateries, and over time they'll gravitate toward ethnic (which I'm in favor of). Either that, or it will go the complete opposite way, get a facelift and start getting some higher rent scenarios.
In the first scenario, Ollies stays, and Performance eventually moves. In the latter, Performance stays, gets a facelift, and Ollies will be forced to another place.
Just my crystal ball.
(And that Pizza place going in where Tom Yum was is taking forever!)
There will also be AAA Travel and Insurance in the same building.

Something tells me there will be travel and insurance services offered at that location. Don't know why I feel like this, but pretty sure travel and insurance services will be offered at that location. Would be great for travel and insurance services to be offered at that location. Travel. Insurance. Services.
