The majority of locals who complain about traffic remember there being far less of it. Because there was.

Since we do tend to travel to various places around the US (and the rest of the world), there’s a general awareness that traffic is worse in other places.

That doesn’t mean increased traffic here compared to what used to be the norm is enjoyable.
Oh, I know. I've lived in the Triangle for 12 years. The volume has definitely increased substantially even just in that time. It's still comical to many of us when people complain. Most people in the Triangle have a commute of 20-30 minutes max. That would be a dream in many major cities.

You will enjoy it here and the COL is still significantly less than DC. Traffic is only bad if you recall what it used to be 15-20 years ago and is all relative to where you live in relationship to your job.

My commute goes from 0 (wfh) to 20 minutes max as I can take back roads to my job in RTP from my area in North Raleigh. When I used to have to use 540 or 440/40, my commute was 30m-1 hour depending on the time of day.

Be smart where you pick your home if you are sensitive to traffic time. It only took me 32 years to figure that out.

Yes and it will only get worse with the horrible roads and dislike for rail transit.

Hey, people are free to complain about the traffic. Just as people are free to find it comical.

It's all relative.

The same people that moved here are the ones that complain most about the growth and the traffic.

Yet, they are the ones that go on and on about getting an Ikea or a Wegman's or a Publix.

You just can't have it both ways.

Yup. Most people complain instead of being grateful for what we have! Just saying! LOL

Yup - I never understood that.

"Awesome, I got to move here! Now nobody else can move here now that I'm happy!"

Are the roads that bad?
I generally feel like there is a lot of capacity for the amount of people on them. It's generally the way people drive here on the highwayt that clogs it up without much traffic. And it's all avoidable IMO. That's the only thing I find frustrating, it's generally not too many cars like a lot of other places I've been, but the way that traffic doesn't flow.

Why is the area so opposed to rail/mass transit?

The legislature is a bunch of backward idiots and thinks expanding roads will solve the issues created by stupid growth and bribing employers to move to NC without paying for the needs the transplants put on all citizens.

A rail line was mapped out almost 20 years ago but was abandoned.
