When I was in middle school many years ago, I read John Steinbeck's novel and was indelibly struck by the desperate situation victims of the dust bowl faced, and their subsequent ordeal after making the migration to the promised land of California.

Does anyone else see a parallel with what is happening to residents of the Northern states in the present time, and their migration to NC and/or Raleigh seeking return to a promised bountiful life?

Frightening.

Yeah definitely. In my job I speak w/ many people from up North, and it is sad to see the financial predicament many are in. Fighting for assistance and unable to get it b/c their taxes say they made a certain amount last year, but they are filing for bankruptcy b/c they business fell through...unable to afford their insurance premiums. Sad stuff. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on the point of view, they cannot all move down here.

My point of view forces me to go with "fortunately".

The folks need to do a new Boston Tea Party and demand fiscal responsibility in government.

Hey !!! Not all of us are coming down soley because of finances. Many of us are coming down for the weather and because "y'all" are so friendly.

Hopefully, the influx won't drive prices up to NY, NJ, and CA levels.

In NC, raising taxes is not taken lightly. Let's hope it stays that way.

Hope the Summer doesn't make you wish you didn't come here.

Again...I've lived here for 30 years. It always amazes me that those from other states always begin complaining after being here about 3 years. The complaint? They want the "others" to stop coming!!!

Do you see the irony???
