I went to the grand opening at Lidl on Wake Forest Rd today as it is close to where I work. It was very busy but didn't seem overly crowded. Lots of personnel about, helping to streamline parking, baskets. Lots of check out aisles and all were open so no waiting.

I am not a fan of Aldi but I enjoyed this store. Produce was nice, prices were good but not everything was a great deal. A nice bakery selection. They had several specials...I bought a French Baguette, warm from the oven for 95 cents and some nice specialty crackers. Lots of items were generic but the packaging was made to look like the "real brand".

Large variety of wine!! Good prices.

Also had an aisle of gift items: pajamas, slippers, small electric appliances. Good prices but quality looked iffy.

I probably wouldn't make a special trip but may stop by from time to times given the close proximity to work for me.

So is this store supposed to be Aldi or what? I've been to Aldi and hatred everything I bought that trip, never been back. I got lunch meat that was so shiny and smooth and plasticy and smelled like dog food....didn't even try it, tried to give it to the dog she didn't eat it either. Also got frozen chicken strips that no matter how I cooked came out mushy and one have them had something so hard in it I almost broke a tooth. Their chips tasted stale as soon as I opened them. So what;s the deal with Lidl?

Lidl is completely different than Aldi.

I think it’s because they are both German companies.

They are compared because they cater to mostly the same clientele and are low cost grocers. Aldi carries mostly private label products. Lidl, however, sells non private label brands, imported brands and private label brands. Lidl also focuses on more non private label brands than Aldi does.

I have no idea what the difference is between "private label" and "non-private label".

Private label is a store owned brand and typically isn't sold at other retailers, for instance, Target's Up&Up brand

Non private label are ones owned by a third party and is sold through a variety of retailers. Coke,Pepsi and Tide fit in this category.

I love Lidl and can't wait for them to open in my area. They are similar to Aldi in some ways, but I think the quality of the most of their products is much higher. To me, Lidl is like a combination of Trader Joe's and Aldi. The prices are amazing, and most of the products are high quality.
