Welp, after my tour of the London emergency room I returned to the USA with the stone. I need to go see someone for this, but have no idea who - anyone have a recommendation for a good urologist for these?

Or, should I be going to my primary care doctor, who would then set the rest up?

So far my only experience with this has been moaning and nearly screaming on the floor, in public. That was lovely!

Also I must note that my ER visit, CT scan, and medications in England cost $33.82, and that charge was for the discharge pain meds only.

I searched older threads but wanted to post a new one. Thanks!

I've had good experience with ER in London, too (or as they call it, A&E). Of course, the $33.82 was what it cost you. It cost the UK taxpayers a lot more.

Of course! And I would gladly pay higher taxes here if everyone could be covered.

We all kick in a little bit and in turn we get back a hell of a lot.

Edit: Imagine if that money we put into deductibles, coinsurance, and premiums went from each of us into a pot that was used to provide coverage for all? We think we know so much more here. We don't. That $33.82 was the cost of medication - my emergency trip (yes, to A&E - I didn't use that term as it has no meaning here) and my CT scan was covered. Had I been admitted and had surgery it would have been on my dime as the US doesn't have an agreement with the UK for that sort of care. I left at my own risk as I didn't know how much it would end up costing.

I could go on and on, but that's another thread on another subforum, really.

I missed the UK system recently! But Apparently it’s all going to change in the uk soon and non residents will be charged much higher amounts. . We had an unexpected trip to the ER a week ago and the bill was many thousands. Being Brits we were very shocked the strange thing for me is you have no idea what it’s going to cost until afterwards!!! I hope you’re better soon.

Thanks! Have appt at Duke urology but in Raleigh so I avoid the hospital charge (maddening, aspect of insurance issues...if I go to Duke 10 min from my house I'm charged differently...)

Oh no! Hope everyone is ok now.

Yes I was reading about the UK changes. So for now emergency services are covered for US travelers but once you are admitted it's on your dime (so I decided to leave and risk it). People there were shocked that I left but I didn't know what the charges would be.

I did, but it would have kicked in after my regular insurance, and regular insurance wanted a precertification, and I was overwhelmed by the whole thing PLUS wanted to continue my vacation vs have surgery...so I just kinda left. They said it was 50/50. But I still have the thing! Grr.
