Hello, my family and I are planning move to the RDCH area in the Spring or Summer.
I would like to get some general information for IT related jobs in the area. Some of the existing posts are older so wanted to get the latest. A little about our situation.
Married with 2 kids
Coming from DC area (nova)
Preferring the Cary area for single family home
I work as Senior level network engineer with background I both enterprise and Service provider.
Have experience in network and security operations design and plan.

What are some of your recommendations about getting job from out of state?

The Triangle isn't exactly hurting for local tech talent so if you declare yourself as not being local, off the bat you are already at a disadvantage.

When I moved here, I contacted a couple recruiters and had a contract software engineering job within three weeks. Try recruiters on Linked In, both ones employed directly by companies you're interested in, and the generic headhunting places.

Best wishes

Obvious advice, but use Indeed and Glassdoor to research first before coming.

A lot of roles here come and go, so there are many roles, and there is a lot of frequent and regular turnover, when companies like Oracle and Cisco cut hundreds at a time.

Thank you. Since I don't have a local address I am considering putting "planning to relocate to Raleigh area May-June" .
I have already done some research for jobs in the area but yes think location is my biggest hurdle.

Our company (Telecom) is having folks in other countries do a lot of provisioning of PE and CPE devices. Rumor has is massive layoffs 1st quarter 2018. Managed services are doing okay but that too is expected to diminish.

I left the Assembly Automation field (Field Engineer) and became a Network Engineer. Now only path is Security Engineer or go back to Robotics.

I love the people suggesting he lie to potential employers about his residential status. Unreal.

My advice is to just avoid saying things like "we're thinking of moving to NC". Pick a date and say "we will be moving to NC as of <date>". Don't say "planning".

Employers don't care if you live here, but they want to know you're serious and will stay.

How DARE a wage slave misrepresent himself to a job creator so he gets meal tickets to feed his family.
