Besides what one can find by googling, does anyone have experience or information on the kinds of things where volunteers are needed on Christmas day?

My plans are up in the air, depending how they fall I may try something different.

The JCC in Durham has a Mitzvah (good deed) Day every Christmas. They have volunteer events mostly around Durham and Chapel Hill that you can sign up for. It looks like many of them are full already, but here is the link:

I am also looking for some info. A law firm I recently started working for is looking at getting involved in giving back to the community and I am in charge, so any help is appreciated....

I'd think they would want to know who's coming, I'm surprised there's no place to register.

Volunteering is a great thing to think about, but the reality is that most places like shelters and soup kitchens have way too many volunteers on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Many of them either turn away offers of help or come up with meaningless busy work, both of which make for a less than fulfilling experience for the volunteer. What they really need is someone to come the other 363 days of the year.
