I know Raleigh is about 15 miles from Raleigh, is there a lot of traffic though that would make commute time a lot longer than 30 minutes at the most?

Your post made me giggle, but it actually makes a good point. Even within Raleigh, you could commute far more than 30 minutes from work to home. To even begin to estimate your commute, you'd need to narrow the areas. Do you have any more specific idea where work or home will be?

When I commuted regularly from Salem St downtown Apex to Centennial Campus in Raleigh, it was 12 miles and was 15-20 minutes in the morning and 20-25 in the evening. That was 2000-2002. Since then Apex is a bit more crowded on Center Street, but US 1 is expanded, so I expect it is about a wash. (My route was Center->US1->I-440->Wade->Avent Ferry).

I commute from Apex (near Beaver Creek Crossing shopping center) to Raleigh (Wade Avenue/Glenwood/Capital area - Glenwood South). It's 18 miles and takes me just under 30 minutes each way.

I take 64 to 1 and get off at Wade and head east until it ends. Sometimes route 1 by Crossroads can get backed up but it's not too bad.

I had friends that live off of Lake Pine in Apex. I live off of Lynn in N. Raleigh. Takes me 20-30 minutes max. It depends on your proximity to the beltline or even 540. Its easy for me b/c we're both relatively close to the beltline.

I think it depends where in Apex you live and where in Raleigh you are going and what time of day you are making the drive. I work with a person in Downtown Raleigh who lives in Apex. Here morning an evening commute regularly take at least one hour with the rush hour traffic.
