Hadn't shared my speedtest result in a while so here goes.

Not too bad and necessary since both my wife and I work from home.

What do you guys use these speeds for? We have a 50/5 plan from EarthLink. My wife works from home too - nothing crazy but when I poke my head in she is doing conference calls on computer like Skype would be (but their internal program, not sure) plus chatting plus viewing slides on another monitor. I just stream YouTube and Netflix. We have a VOIP line via Google Voice. I honestly can't remember the last time I waited for a web page to load.

Even uploading pictures and video to Goole Photos is fast.

I dunno, I guess I don't know what I'm missing.

The higher upload speeds are REALLY nice if you use cloud services. All of these new HD Security Cameras coming out now are capable of streaming out at 1080p 60fps, which uses a lot of upload bandwidth.

Cloud and high-def streaming are the biggest data hogs. If you have a family of 5 all streaming, uploading phone backups to the cloud, playing video games, etc... then it really helps.

My wife and I "get by" on a 12/1.5 DSL connection.

Back when I was on 50/5, I had some challenges on Skype video calls from home. Now that I am on 200/20, I no longer have issues with calls breaking up or video being disabled.

Yeah the 5Mb upload was probably the issue there.

You sound like me circa 1994 wondering why anyone would ever need a hard drive larger than 10 MB. Right now, with only one person home there are a dozen connected devices on my network including smart devices, security camera's, my thermostats. We live in a connected world and it all consumes bandwidth.

My issue is why the competition, albeit limited, has not really driven prices down. Compared to European costs for internet, we are being gouged.

We can get 1Gb for 70 bucks and, 200Mb for 65 bucks, and 100 Mb for 50 bucks.

That's insanity - I don't see how it could be any cheaper. Maybe it's just because I'm old and grew up with 5600 baud modems.

I'm out in the boondocks at Lake Gaston and the only ISP I can get is Century Link DSL. They offer 25 MB but because of my remote location I can only get 10MB/1MB). I thought this would be a disaster but soon learned even this pittance of bandwidth was sufficient for my needs. I can stream movies without any issues and daily work such as email, banking, news, shopping, etc is really no different than when I was in the triangle with 100MB.

Where did you find 1 Gb for 70? With Spectrum 200 Mb is now 66 bucks. They just could not sustain their business without that extra $1 I guess.
