Sidewalk or not, the effect is the same with too-short driveways.

Like I said, we here just deal with it... and watch where we're going.

There's nothing to deal with and no need to watch where you're going. If you're worried about hitting cars parked in driveways, you're drunk. Lol.

Driving at speed that is appropriate to conditions is Driving 101, and a basic skill required of anyone behind the wheel.

Can't see? Slow down. Or, stop.

OP specifically said there are no sidewalks and the car is IN/ON the driveway. I still fail to see how this is an issue for anyone on the roadway, whether in a car, on a bicycle or on foot.

Well you can get there without passing anyone's driveway, so you're in luck LOL. Avoiding the Lantern Fest just because it's in Cary makes about as much sense as the OP.

Lol yeah, I am exaggerating. I haven't gone cause I don't have time yet. But I do avoid Cary like the plague when I can.

the driveways across the neighborhood are short both lengthwise and in-between 2 houses - maybe I'll take a picture next time to highlight why someone might hit the bumpers especially when there are 2 SUVs parked back-back and the last one's rear is protruding onto the streets.

the common theme seems 'ignore it'. And at times that answer is also acceptable when there are no other alternatives/options out there that can be explored/available.

Maybe time to retell the story to the elderly in a different manner and ask them to be more 'careful' at night
