That was amazing! My power finally came back on around 3 a.m. Duke Energy's text alert feature is pretty good (they helpfully notified me of my power outage right after it started, ha).

I measured both 8.5 inches and 9 inches of snow in my yard, so for my trouble I'm going with nine.

I saved the ice cream and buried it on the deck.

I just realized there's really no point in me shoveling my driveway - our culdesac never gets plowed. Just have to wait for it all to melt (and drive on top if it)!

9 hours total? Ugh that's awful. Did your house retain heat relatively well?

Yesterday or early evening before the freeze was the time to shovel/sweep. The snow was movable then, now it's just frozen and you will have to chip and crack ice. I am fortunate my employer closed again for today. This afternoon I will get busy clearing cars off. Spent a lot of time clearing walks, driveway, porch all day yesterday, probably 6 dif times. Was out "sweeping" again at 10pm but glad I did since all those areas are safe to walk today. Dogs were thankful.

If newcomers to the area wonder why we all head to grocery store to stock up its because of times like this week. Weather ppl say 1-3" and we get 6-12". Enjoy the snow days, everyone relax and appreciate the beauty.

Yes, but how many times do they say 1-3" or higher and we get barely any or none at all? That's a lot of stocking up for no reason!

We go food shopping once a week so unless a storm is supposed to hit on shopping day, we don't do anything special. We don't drink milk and have plenty of bread and crackers and peanut butter so we're alright.

Yeah I do all my shopping on Sunday and am set for the week. Staples like toilet paper are bought in bulk at Costco, so I've never had to "stock up" before a storm. Maybe if you have kids that eat everything in the house and you have to shop every 3 days?
