I've had a Jiffy Lube tell me a single winshield wiper didn't pass inspection and if I didn't buy new ones from them, they'd fail me and I'd have to pay the inspection fee again when I got it re-inspected.
Are they still planning another Ford store in Apex? I thought that got shot down.
Their effort to rezone the northwest corner of 64/Davis got shot down a couple of years ago, but they also owned property at the southwest corner that was previously rezoned and they're moving forward on that.
Getting back to the topic more directly at hand, it really behooves someone to ask around and get opinions concerning which automotive shops are honest and which try to sell motorists bogus items. I'm convinced some of these places would try and convince someone that they need to have their windshield washer flushed every 3,000 miles for a low price of $39.95 in order to keep their car running properly if they thought people would buy it.
My personal experience has been that some of the chain automotive places are some of the worst to do this, in part because they have regional managers who are pressuring the stores' managers to up-sell various unneeded products and services. If you can find an honest independent mechanic, that's golden. There are some bad apple independents out there too, but if you do your research, they can usually be avoided.
Why would a hybrid get more life out of brakes? They are typically heavier than your regular vehicle.
My wife has a 2010 Prius with original pads on it on all corners. 112k miles. The regenerative breaking system takes the brunt of the braking until about 10mph.
Some hybrids are even more aggressive like the i3 and Volt. Typically most times you don't even use the brake pedal on them. It's basically single pedal driving.

Thank you! And yes, that's what I learned upon getting my 2nd opinion from a reputable mechanic.
This makes it all the more ridiculous (and extra scammy) for that 3 same first letter of alphabet car care place to pull a stunt like this and claim I needed new brakes on a vehicle with pristine brake pads and known for original brake parts to last longer than non-hybrid vehicles.
My experience is not an isolated one--they apparently pull crap like this often enough for it to be a pattern. Again, do not let any of the 3 same first letter of alphabet car care places touch your car...not even for a simple oil change.
I feel a bit obligated to say that the two times I used that 3-letter acronym place, albeit for simple maintenance, that I feel I got decent and honest service and they didn't try to upsell me. It was the one on New Hope Rd.
Not saying that you are saying all of them are crooked or anything but felt they deserved a call-out for good service. Upselling is something I am very wary of and anyone doing it should be called out.
