As we all know, Amazon started as a destroyer of small media stores and is now poking into many other areas.
We think Amazon will be the big retail power and will take over more segments.
Remember this from a long time Amazon customer.
1. Amazon is no longer the best price on many items
2. Amazon collects sales tax
3. Amazon has only a 30 day return period
4. Amazon is becoming careless with many incorrect items on the web
5. Amazon is now in a war with Walmart, not just local media stores
Remember, the bigger they are, the harder they fall
Who will be stuck with the cost of new infrastructure, if Amazon opens the new office and then backs off and lays off a massive number of employees as customers become disenchanted with them?
Not to mention that Amazon (or through a contractor) will hire a bunch of H1-B's from overseas. Three major universities nearby and we'll get the "we can't find enough local talent" line.

So now we have to hear about overpaid yuppies AND overpaid hipsters? That alone makes we want to vote NO for Amazon....
Not to worry: the likelihood that Amazon builds HQ2 in the Triangle are exceedingly low for a variety of reasons. First being the lack of public transportation.

Occasionally, that's true. But I'm not driving to six grocery stores every week to get the "best price" on my food, either. Ill pay a bit more for Convenience and predictable results.
2. Amazon collects sales tax
who doesn't?
3. Amazon has only a 30 day return period
who doesn't? And Amazon comes to me to get that returned item. Convenience and predictable results again.
4. Amazon is becoming careless with many incorrect items on the web
This One I agree with. At about the same rate as brick and mortar stores have missing or incorrect price tags. On second thought, Amazon's mistakes are fewer.

good.
Speaking of "predictable results", I'm surprised it took CB so long to start this Debbie Downer thread.
