I am looking for a doctor to treat what I believe is plantar fasciitis. Have you used a local podiatrist or orthopedic for this problem that you would recommend? It seems a lot of doctors have bad reviews or ones that appear to be canned, paid reviews.
I am in Cary but am willing to travel.
Thanks!

My husband has seen Dr. Sarah E. DeWitt on Person St near downtown Raleigh and had a great experience.

Might be a little bit of travel but I go to Dr. Hodos in Wake Forest. He is very thorough!

Strongly recommend Dr. Tomey at Cary Foot & Ankle Specialists. Cary Foot and Ankle Specialists - Cary, NC | 919-460-6088

I've seen him a couple times now for a different issue and have found him incredibly knowledgeable. He is also really nice. It never feels like he is trying to rush me in and out of there like some Doctors. He takes the time to listen to my concerns and answers all of my questions; never makes me feel stupid for asking something.

I have seen Dr Tomey for Plantar Facitis and everything he said and did was correct. I just don't like the type of orthotics he uses. He uses the hard plastic that is supposed to be good for life. I prefer a softer kind that gives me some shock absorption but will not last a life time.

I went to Duke Ortho and saw Beth Turner PA for my last foot issue. I like that she was not quick to push any medication just fix the mechanics that were causing the pain (orthotics).

I will add that I did not like Dr Lord from Emerge Ortho he was quick to push anti inflammatories and was incredibly dismissive and arrogant.

Thank you all for your recommendations. I really want to get to the bottom of the issue and not treat the symptoms. Although I am pretty sure I know what the root of the problem is and will be working on my diet next

I would recommend an Ortho over a Podiatrist.

My family doctor at Duke told me that foot surgery should be avoided if at all possible. The downtime and failure rate is high.

For your issue, an Ortho may be the best choice. Worked for me many years ago.

I just went through a year of PF. It was the second time I've had it, both times after I moved and spent a ridiculous amount of time standing to pack and unpack a house. I tried orthodics, I tried rolling a ball under my foot, I tried pretty much everything out there except seeing a doctor. Then I purchased these from Amazon because I noticed that my ankle was swollen on the foot that was bothering me and the swelling appeared to coincide with my worst pain days. Within a week of wearing them, I could see an improvement and by a month, the PF was gone. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...e?ie=UTF8&th=1

The biggest issue with PF for me is the Catch-22 part of it. I couldn't exercise because I would be practically crippled the next day, but exercise helps me to lose weight and also builds the muscles in my feet and ankles. I am back to walking 6-7 days a week (weather permitting).

Good luck! I hope you get this straightened out. It's not only painful, but it interferes with daily living.

I did end up seeing an ortho doc instead of a podiatrist. I was quite happy with the visit. I can already tell a difference, especially on the days with no tennis. Surgery would definitely be a no go for me.
