This isn't specific to BC. We've had two repairs to our power line in 2 months. Duke Energy Progress said today they would do a replacement/repair of the line that might fix our problems. I understand the replacement technique calls for them to install a pipe and the power cable goes in that pipe.

There's a lot of water where the repairs have been and it's shorted out the line when there was a nick. First time it was damage to the neutral line, yesterday it was some damage to the main power line. I do have to give credit to DEP for sending out a technician last night who restored power by splicing the existing power line. We would really like to not have this problem!

Anyway, just wondering if anyone has dealt with something similar in the area.

We had a 5 year old power cable fail in our neighborhood. No pipe added but the replacement was not instantly buried.

In your rapid growth area, some contractors probably failed to get the lines spotted before digging and cut your power line.

I used to work at a utility, and the pipe may help if the digging is done with small equipment.

We had great weekend service too. It helped that I could use utility terminology to describe the weird behavior after the cut since we had lost a "phase" and lights ran amuck.

Last time it was a power surge with damaged items all thru the house. Second time no damage, just not enough power.

Thanks for the reply.

At one time, I remember that you thought Google Fiber street installation caused the power surge. Did that turn out to be accurate?

We never got a clear answer from the electric company. There just isn't enough evidence to point the finger at Google. But I still think it odd that it happened when Google was around. That doesn't explain the second time.
