We are thinking of moving to NC in the next year or two but heading down to the Cary, Raleigh, Apex, Holly Springs area over Easter to start looking around. Any suggestions on best way to see the best of these towns in short period of time. We have not been to any so far.

We really want to be near water. Are there any lake living communities near these areas where you can have a boat docked at your house?

My last question is are there any good towns to live in that would be only an hour or so from the beaches?

Thanks!

If the water is important, the Triangle probably shouldn't even be on the list. Beach 2 hours away minimum, and the few lakes are "eh".

You might want to spend more time looking at a map to figure out what might fit your geographical needs.

Wilmington might be better for you...particularly the beach towns near there.

Keep doing some research....this place isn't what you want. I see you posted this in the coastal forum first....go back and ask about towns with employment and good schools with your budget.

You might consider the areas around Lake Norman.

So one of the problems this forum community has with threads like these is that it conveys a basic lack of effort. Clearly, if you've looked at a map it would be obvious that there is no part of the Triangle that would be "an hour or so" from the beach (unless by "or so" you mean "or three").

What do you (the "OP") really know about the Triangle, other than it has a more attractive cost-of-living than many urban centers?

And when you ask for some direction in terms of seeing "the best of" for four separate parts of the Triangle, what exactly are you asking for? Culture? Shopping? Dining? Housing?

Do you have a housing budget? Are you planning on working after the relocation and if so, roughly where do you think that might be (e.g., are you a doctor, a technology worker, a chemist)? Do you have children and are schools a factor?

Most of these questions are rhetorical to a point and intended to convey why your post is lacking. Also, so, so much of the information you seek is already available via a forum search, so give that a try.

Except that would be 4-5 hours to the beach.
