Yes, they're available in Southern Wake county. Strikes me as way early, but maybe my internal clock is off this year.

When do strawberries usually come in? I'm thinking (wrongly, I guess) in another month.

May 1 is the "typical" date, but the second or third week of April isn't hugely unusual. A couple of years ago the fields opened in mid-April...here's an article from the N&O from April 13, 2016:

North Carolina strawberry crop is early this year | News & Observer

We've always had fresh strawberries for my dad's April 4 b'day, so I don't think it's early. I think it just feels like it's still winter!

They're probably grown in a tunnel or greenhouse. I think the field grown ones will be ready in a month. We used to go pick them every year for Mother's Day.

Surprisingly, the bucket I bought Friday came out of a Route 42 strawberry field (Porter's). The attendant mentioned they only got a light yield, but expects this upcoming Wednesday's pick will be fuller.

I drove by fields two days ago (4/6) on ten-ten rd that had white blossoms. Some of the sellers on street corners are driving up with berries from further south. But whatever, I can't wait for some big juicy, flavorful strawberries!

I bought some Friday from Lyon Farms between Creedmoor and Falls Lake. The fruit is well-formed but still needs a little sugar... typical for early fruit.

OK...this morning, I saw a man in front of me at Costco checkout with XX Farms buying 2 palette carts filled with strawberries. He paid and then left ....I asked the cashier if he was a chef. Her response "No...he just resells them at one of those tents on the side of the road". I KID YOU NOT!
