[color="Blue"]My wife and I are looking forward to retirement next year from Virginia and are looking at a number of locations in North Carolina. We are looking for a place that has those nice amenities that retirees enjoy, affordable housing, safe neighborhoods, good medical facilities, nice restaurants, etc. After working for 30 years in the Washington, DC area, I also want to avoid traffic. Can anyone advise on the Cary/Holly Springs areas?

If you are looking to avoid traffic in the Triangle ou are looking in the wrong area. I would suggest one of the more popular NC retirement areas like Asheville (if you don't mind a little more snow in the winter, but the nice falls and more comfortable summers would make up for it probably) or the Outer Banks (if you don't mind hurricanes).

Thank, i'informed, I was wondering about the traffic. I have heard that it can be pretty tough at times. We have looked at the Clemmons/Winston-Salem area as well as the Pinehurst/Southern Pines area. Both are very pretty and appear to have a lot less traffic.

Pinehurst/Southern Pines is a very retirement friendly area. It, as I'm sure you know, is one of the premier golf areas of the world.

Not sure if this would be of any interest to you but there's a new Del Webb community being built (Sun City Carolina Lakes) located in Lancaster, SC (5 minutes from NC state line).

Lovethecarolinas, South Carolina was an area that I first thought about before I got married 3 years ago, but my wife would like to stay within a 4 to 5 hour drive to her parents in Virginia. Thanks for the thought anyway.
