My wife had a terrible surge in blood pressure caused by a medication change.

EMS took her to Duke with sirens and red lights on our request since the symptoms mimicked a stroke.

This hospital has taken a great jump forward after the scandal years ago for using elevator fluid by mistake as sterilizing fluid because a contractor put used fluid in empty drums marked in their last use as sterilizing fluid for surgical instruments.

Her care at Duke was superb with a great hospitalist MD supervising care.

All employees were super nice and the doctor sent her upstairs for a day of observation and tests.

If you need emergency care, consider Duke Raleigh.

My wife is back on track.

I agree! Had a great experience with a minor surgery there last year.

I'm sorry that this happened to your wife and your family. I'm glad to hear that she is all right and that you had a good experience. And we've had excellent experiences with both Duke hospitals (save for the food and parking).

But was it NECESSARY to cloud your positive remarks about Duke by bringing up an episode from 2004, that was caused by a subcontractor, and didn't cause a physical, medical danger to a single patient?

No it wasn't necessary or even helpful.

It was helpful because that incident caused heads to roll and a new policy was put in place. Before the change, several staffers noticed the irregular smell and texture but were ignored.
Now, the bearer of bad news is appreciated, not punished.

Even the food is better.

Glad I'm not the only one that picked up on that and had the same reaction.
